The store will feature a gifting tree from Friday 2nd November until Sunday 16th December and customers will be encouraged to select a tag from it and choose a suitable book. Waterstones will then deliver all the donated books in time for Christmas.
The My WiSH Charity looks after over 90 different areas at West Suffolk Hospital covering all ages and aspects of health including stroke, diabetes, the emergency department and the Macmillan unit. One specific appeal is the WiSH Upon a Star appeal which supports children across the hospital. It covers all of paediatric care including the neonatal unit, the Rainbow children's ward, the maternity unit, day surgery, fracture clinic, paediatric asthma, paediatric diabetes, eye clinic, dermatology and any other outpatient clinics or ward areas who care for young patients.
We wanted to create a collection of books that could benefit local children, not just at Christmas but throughout the year. By asking our customers to add an extra book to their Christmas gifting purchase, we can help support the work this wonderful charity does.
We chose the My WiSH Charity which operates within the West Suffolk Hospital as we felt this was a great way to make a poorly child's visit to hospital a little bit easier and also tied in nicely with the celebrations for 70 Years of the NHS earlier in 2018.
