How do we construct our identities? What role does masculinity play in manhood? When and how do boys become men?
McMillan's upcoming collection explores the different ways we grow into our adult identities, and Cassara's debut novel, inspired by the seminal documentary Paris is Burning, explores the yearning for family and community.
McMillan's debut, physical, was the first poetry collection to win the Guardian First Book Award, alongside several other prizes; it was shortlisted for many more.
His new collection, playtime, is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation for Autumn 2018.
The House of Impossible Beauties is Cassara's first novel. He is currently an assistant professor of creative writing at the California State University, Fresno.
